Nadia and Ilya Senchuk started farming grapes for their winery, Leaning Post, with the dream of producing world class, terroir-driven wines from vineyard sites across Niagara. At Leaning Post, winemaker Ilya employs minimal intervention to their small batch bottlings, allowing the vintage to show itself in the glass. 50% of the Pinot Noir grapes in the 2017 vintage come from the Senchuk Vineyard (Lincoln Lakeshore), and 50% from the Lowrey Vineyard (St David’s Bench). Hand-picked and hand-sorted, the grapes from each vineyard were fermented separately. Aged for 16 months in French oak (20% new). A wonderful balance of floral and fruit. Earthy, beet-like flavours, intense cherry and raspberry. Vibrant acidity and a soft, supple mouthfeel. Will age for 4 – 5 years. Only 200 cases made. Niagara Peninsula, 2017.
