Thomas Ligas and his children farm their grapes biodynamically in Macedonia. Their philosophy is: permaculture, no interventions in the wine, no sulfites, no commercial yeast. This Assyrtiko is an epic orange, natural wine from the maitres of this style, and 2019 is considered the BEST vintage - many critics have cited 2019 as the best of the decade.
This wine is fire. Fermented with skin contact and indigenous yeast in stainless. 50% of the wine ages in used oak barrels for 12 months. Bottled unfiltered. Exuberant and intense. Perhaps the epitome of orange wine. Tree fruit (peach and nectarine), candied orange peel, honey, tight mineral streak - salty and briny. High acid but with a luscious mouth feel. Fantastic. Macedonia, Greece, 2019.
